Inaugurated in 1961, the City of Paris Museum of Modern is located on the banks of the Seine between the Champs-Elysées and the Eiffel Tower, in the East wing of the Palais de Tokyo which was built for the International Exhibition of 1937.
The museum collections contain nearly 9,000 works representing the major artistic movements of the 20th century. Works by the Fauvists, Cubists, the Paris school, examples of the decorative arts from the interwar period, and works by Delaunay, Dufy, Fautrier, Rouault are some of the highlights of the collection which has been enhanced by groups of works illustrating contemporary movements (New Realism, Arte Povera, Supports/Surfaces, Narrative Figuration, German painting, the young French art scene, etc.).
The museum offers companies the opportunity to organize private events (gala evenings, drink receptions, luxury dinners, press conferences, marketing presentations, award ceremonies, breakfasts, etc.) at the very heart of this rich and diverse collection, in accordance with the museum’s terms and conditions.
These events take place in the large galleries bathed in natural light overlooking the forecourt, the Seine and the Eiffel Tower or in the museum’s former main reception hall (in the shadow of Raoul Dufy’s Electricity Fairy mural), or in the Matisse Gallery (surrounded by The Unfinished Dance and The Dance of Paris by Matisse, and Buren’s Wall of paintings).
The prestigious venue and the opportunity of a special tour of the collections or temporary exhibitions contribute to the success of private events organized at the City of Paris Museum of Modern Art.
This vast hall bathed in natural light shining throug tall bay-windows welcomes the new display of the art collection.
The selected artworks belong to two main movements of the very beginning of the 20th century : Fauvism (De Vlaminck, Delaunay, Braque…) and Cubism (Gleizes, Picasso, Braque, Derain, Juan Gris, Léger…).
This room, with its breathtaking view over the Seine and the Eiffel Tower, shows works by Robert Delaunay, Jean Hélion, Auguste Herbin, Frantisek Kupka, Fernand Léger.
This room was originally built to hold Henri Matisse's famous Danse inachevée and Danse de Paris, it also shows Buren's Mur de peintures.
The two triptychs, La Danse inachevée (1931) and La Danse de Paris (1931-1933), are two versions of the wall painting Henri Matisse was commissioned in 1930 by Doctor Barnes who wished to decorate the great hall of his foundation in Merion, Pennsylvania.
Created during the International Exhibition of 1937, La Fée électricité, painted by Raoul Dufy is comprised of 250 panels of 200 x 120 cm covering a U-shaped wall of 600 m². Under the watchful eye of the Mount Olympus Gods, the painting tells, through two different styles, the history of electricity from Archimedes' first observations to the modern technical developments of its own time.
Events can take place outside opening hours :
• from 6pm every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday,
• from 8am to 10am for breakfast from Tuesday to Sunday,
• all day Monday and / or Monday evening.
